Nick, Jeff and I were chatting yesterday evening. The subject of "The first time I met Jeff..." came up.

Here's my story: he was doing construction on the petting zoo two (?) years ago. Alen introduced me to him, saying "This is Kelly. She's our female jouster." To which Jeff replied. "I don't know what I think about that."

"It doesn't matter," I smiled. "I'm doing the show." Granted, inside I was shaking. What the hell? I didn't even know this guy. What's wrong with a "Nice to meet you"?

Anyway, I reminded Jeff of this meeting. "I remember that," he said. "I remember that you were so gracious, it was disarming." After a moment, he added, "Wow. Did you look at me and just see a huge penis?"

Funny, how far we've come. Later still, he said, "I would joust you any day of the week. You know that."

Makes me feel really good.

My first meeting with Jeff...late 1996 after my newbie year at faire and hearing all the stories about the infamous Bugger at T&P and others...
I did Jesus Christ Superstar at Gallery Players in Brooklyn. We had the full cast meeting and went around the room introducing ourselves and characters. I was Caiaphas and Jeff was one of my priests. At the first break, I went up to him and said "Jeff DeRocker...Ren Faire Jeff DeRocker??" His response was to look down shake his head and say "Oh God, what did you hear?" while laughing. He was very gratious.

The I met his wife without knowing it. I was riding a horse across stage at the Met for one of the operas and they needed to make me a double costume of the guy I was doubling. they said go see Vicki Jo. Nobody said DeRocker. When Jeff brought her to a bday dinner for Karen last year we both just pointed at each other and laughed..."Hey I know you!"

My first meeting Mr. DeRocker was at the NJRK. It was the only other faire I had ever visited. I tried on a bodice in his shop. HOw do you ladies do it? I didn't get to buy it. poo!
The next time I saw him was at our faire, and he reminded me that we had met before.I had forgotten, and was quite tickled that he remembered me. Yes he is the only man to see me in a bodice.
I will not lie, when I met him for the second time, he scared me, as do most people. He is a darling.

I first met Jeff back in 1995. It was my first year at the Faire, and I was playing the Village Idiot (FULL CIRCLE, BABY!). Back then, the villagers all met in the same room for rehearsals. Robin Hood Band, Guards and Court rehearsed seperately. So, while we were rehearsing T&P, Dan O'Driscoll stood in for the Sheriff. The first time I got to interact with Jeff as the Sheriff, it was during T&P opening weekend. I brought up my brother and accused him of impersonating me. The punishment? Take him out back and bugger him.
