I may have a chance to try riding sidesaddle!!!!

Thing is, I know no one who does it. I'll be figuring this out on my own. I've already started searching online. If all goes well, I'd only be riding aside in the morning procession. No jousting, no jumping, none of that.

Anyone ever done this?

A long time ago
It was...strange, to say the least. Once I got used to it, though, it wasn't that bad. Never did feel comfortable at more than a gentle canter though, and a trot was pure hell. Some of the more experienced ladies swore you could get up to a full gallop and be perfectly secure, but I never got that far myself. Have fun - don't wear slippery skirts!

Hey Kel -
The woman that sits next to me at work shows sidesaddle. I'm sure she'd love to talk to you. She's VERY cool!

Thank you kindly, Jared! I'll let you know if/when I get the saddle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just had to remark on how funny it is that sidesaddle is now the unknown when way back when (most) women only rode that way! :)

You will, of course, be the picture of elegance. And if anyone gives you a hard time, you'll have TWO available kicking feet! *grins mischeviously*

Unless, of course they're taunting from the right side of the horse...lol Then again, there's nothing stopping the sword arm.

I'm trying very hard to wrap my head around the concept of me being 'elegant... but thank you for your faith in that, dear!

And yes, Jared... chances are there will be a long crop in the sword arm. Mwah-hah-hah!!!!!

I am SOOOO jealous!
There was an old sidesaddle in the pony barn when I used to work at the Bronx Zoo and I always wanted to try it!
