On Christmas Eve I was talked into going skiing. The two glasses of wine probably had something to do with my decision, as did the excitement my niece and nephews exhibited upon hearing Aunt Kelly would be placing herself in mortal peril joining them on the slopes.

I've never skied before, which is reason enough for terror. Add to that my period just started, and I was robbed of any semblance of sleep due to screaming cramps. Not sure if this happens to anyone else, but during this very special week each month, my coordination is severely diminished. When you're starting with a baseline of 'quite clumsy,' this is no small matter. I seriously considered backing out.

But my niece is so happy I'm going, and really - I don't take chances. I tend to cling to the safe and familiar. Every so often, I step out of that comfort zone, try something new, and it's usually a success (see: running, rappelling, jousting). Sometimes it's even fun (see: roller coasters, kickboxing). I'll hold to that today, and keep it in mind for the coming year when I really have to make a decision about whether I'm a writer or not.

In the meanwhile, I'm going to brush my teeth, find my heavy gloves and put on eyeliner, 'cause it never hurts to look pretty for the Ski Rescue team.

. . .Snowboarding *is* scary. AND it hurts. Lol. I much prefer some hardcore tea-drinking and novel-reading. Oh yeah. Extreme Jane Austen!
