My sweetie needs a new vest. Button-downs totally work with his body type, and now that I'm having most of his work shirts properly laundered, he's grown quite adept at putting together stylish and appealing combinations. Here's hoping the days of "But they're all shades of green! What do you MEAN they don't go together?" are in the past.

Thing is, there's a serious dearth of button-down vests out there. A few years past, in a similar waistcoat drought, I purchased a pretty cool vest from this site. Considering how much Don loves it, how much he still wears it and how well it fits, I'm thinking the time has come to give them my custom once more. Thing is, there are a whole lot of options. I've narrowed it down, but I'd really like your input.

Now, keep in mind most of Don's vests are dark (black, grey, dark brown tweed) and, if there is a pattern, it's fairly understated. Going a bit snazzier, while not necessary, is all to the good. Given that, what choices do YOU like?

1. Shawl collar, pale blue with swirls

2. Also blue, this time with stripes

3. Red with fun pattern, nice details

4. Red again. Classic cut, excellent fabric

5. Stripey red. I'm quite fond of this one

6. More stripey; VERY different from anything he already owns

Look for a double breasted waistcoat - very classy, at least, to me!

#1 is definitely my favourite colour, and I like the shape of #5 better, but overall #1 is the winner.

Ok ALL of these are fantastic, but I know that is not helpful so I've ranked these a bit according to what they conjure in my imagination along with what I can most see Don sporting!
Tied for 1st Place-#2 blue stripes- this vest is sort of like if Sherlock Holmes and a Victorian James Bond had the same tailor. #3 Red Paisley- this one is regal, classic and perfect for any festive gathering.

2nd Place-#1 the swirly blue- this is a prince charming vest without a doubt!

3rd Place-#5 I love this one, it makes me think of old fashioned soda shops and bicycles built for two!

4th Place-#6 I am actually a huge fan of tasteful holiday themed accessories, and this vest hits the nail on the head! The perfect thing for the season!

5th Place-#4 red asian print- this is a super snazzy pants vest perfect for a hot date night!

All 6 are fantastic!

There is something very appealing about the shawl collar...I do like #1 a lot, but I think that #2 with the blue stripe is the most "everyday classic" looking one of the bunch, which would probably make it something that he might wear most often. The others seem dressier to me.
I think my Top three are: #2, #1 & #4 (I actually really like #4 as well, it may be a tie for the second spot)

Since my opinion is almost word for word the same as Mare's, I'm just going to second her here :)

I can see why you're having trouble picking one. I tend to lean towards the stripey ones; (several of them would also look very nice if he wants to accompany you into putting a Steampunk outfit together).

My top two picks are the blue stripe and red stripe. (I'm not crazy about the buttons on those, but those are easily changed if desired.)

The first light blue one and last white/red stripe one look fancy to the point of 'save these for special occasions'.

The red/black one would also be usable at CP events, if he wanted to go dressier then.

Least favorite is the 'red with fun patterns' (it looks orange-y to me, but I'm not keen on it overall).

Also, I know you've mentioned Don doesn't read this lj with any regularity, but you may want to tuck some of the text behind the cut and/or warn him off (in case it shows up on a friends of friends page or whatever).

My first choice is #2 -the color is bright but not costume-ish, and the points lengthen and slim.

"But they're all shades of green! What do you MEAN they don't go together?"
ROFFLE. When I first moved in, Rob's work wardrobe was exclusively khaki pants (heinously pleated, and mostly that really ugly Dickies shade of mustard khaki) white buttondowns, ratty blue oxfords, and khaki-ish colored shirts that should never go with khaki pants. It took quite some time (and subtle prodding) to transform his wardrobe, into the nice selection it is now.

And all of us who gaze now upon him do sayeth "yum" ;)

I'm leaning toward #2 & #5 as well. i LOVE the colur of #2. The rounded collars look a wee bit too formal for everyday wear in my opinion.
Please, lease, please tell me you are getting (or he has) an ascot and cufflinks to complete the ensemble?

I love 1, and the last one is super festive and exciting.

I vote for #2 or #5.

#4 is nice, #'s 3 and 1 are too busy,and #6 is too gay. ;)

Numbers 2, 4, and 5 jump out to me. If you're looking for something spiffy, definitely 5. That is a vest that would get compliments.

2, 5, 6 in that order.

I'm very strongly favoring #s 1, 2, 3, and 5 with 5 being my clear favorite and 3 close on its heels. Five's got a very charming steam-punk kind of feel to it for me!

My favorite is number 6 with 1 being my second choice. Disclaimer - I have no knowledge of what he has in his wardrobe or his color favorites.
