Ye gods, I'm a-weary
Long frelling day, this.

I barely slept, and it was up at 5:30 to shower and get ready to meet the realtor for the final walk-through of the house. Then it was off to the lawyer's office. There was our lawyer, the seller's lawyer, the bank lawyer and the title guy, who may also have been a lawyer. Our realtor was there, and our mortgage consultant stopped by as well. Everyone was absolutely warm and lovely. The lawyer (our own) explained things thoroughly. For our part, Don and I signed and initialled, initialled and signed. I wrote two big checks (but not as big as they might have been). We waited for the final OK from the bank.

And then?

It was done. The house is ours, save for the little issue of thirty years of mortgage payments.

We bought a six-pack of beer and each had one as we stood in the empty kitchen. Then we measured and made notes and took a rather expensive trip to Home Depot. There is so much that needs to be done. There is so much that is absolutely lovely. I'll have more details, and hopefully pics, soon, but for now I just want to sleep.
I feel: draineddrained

saw the pics on TOP...that's an awesome looking house, not small at all! And the property! *jealous* :-)

It's wee inside (midget-height basement and all), but there's a real warmth to it. The property needs considerable work, but hey - we own it now! And it is so very pretty. Lots of old trees, random bursts of flowers and DEER!

I forgot to mention the deer! When we got back after the closing, we opened our beers and looked out the window to see three enormous deer bounding off into the woods behind our house. How very lovely!

This is something I do with every new place I move into. Pour some of your favorite drink on the floor. Just a way of making the house part of the family.

Re: tradition
I will do so. I'm going up Friday to do a major cleaning. I'm going to plant something, and I'm taking bread and salt into the house. It is an old, old tradition, I know, but I love the notion of fostering abundance.

Can't wait for y'all to see it, unpainted and half-finished though it be.
