Today is a weepy day. It happens. Trouble is, it's almost always a weepy day when I come across something like this piece about children's letters to President-Elect Obama.

Or the NPR piece about letters of advice from Navajo children in Arizona. The audio portion is weepy-making on it's own, but read the additional letters online...

this letter is adorable:

Dear Mr. Obama,

My name is Bianca Yazzie. My clans are White Towering House and Mexican People clan, and the Salt People clan. I am a girl with long brown hair with blue fingernails. Here is my interesting question: Do you like Hannah Montana songs? If you do you're an awesome president for the United States of America.

Bianca Yazzie

this one made me sniffle:

Dear Mr. Obama,

Hello, my name is Alisa Talor Yazzie. My maternal clan is Deer Springs, born for Bitter Water, and my paternal clan is Red Bottom clan, born for Towering House. I am full-blooded Navajo and I am 9 years old. At my school I voted for you, I wanted you to win. I was also a princess at my other school but I gave up my crown. There are a lot of things that are happening in my life. My uncle has kidney failure on both kidneys, but he'll be all right, won't he? I hope so. I just wanted to say hi, and I hope I will be able to see you once. When I get a new phone I will tell you my number.

Alisa Yazzie

I am such a sap.

Oh, and this made me smile:

Dear Mr. Obama,

My name is Amberly Neztsosie and my clans are Mexican clan, Edgewater, Bitterwater, Red Running Into Water People clan. I live in a trailer and a hogan. I am president of my class. It seems pretty hard so good luck.

when I was a kid I wrote a letter to president Clinton. I think it went something like,

"Dear Mr. President, you're doing a good job. I don't like the KKK, is there anything you can do about them?

Jenelle Sosa

P.S you play a wailin' sax!!"

I'm not kidding.

OMG, I am dead of the cute. I think the first one is my favorite... I'm ready to throw all our Hannah Montana stock into a bonfire, but that is still one of the cutest damn bits of cuteness I've ever heard.

Loved them...the wonder of children in the face of the real world.

Friday was my weepy day, glad I didn't see these then or it would have been messy.
