Am I a menace to non-Faire society?
I just responded to a post on sheroes regarding jousting. I think I may have blithered on to an alarming degree.

Must I be stopped? Ought someone poke me with a sharp stick when I start chattering about horses and lances and quintains and lists?

I think, perhaps.... yes. Honestly. Who wants to hear all of that? Why can I not just give a two line answer and be done with it?

Sheesh. And I thought I'd avoided the whole 'jouster ego' thing. It is NOT all about me!!!

Y'all are on my friends list for a reason. If I ever get to going on about how brilliant I am because I can ride a horse and hold a long stick, it's your job to remind me that I'm not savng lives, here. I am lucky that I get to do something I love. I work hard to be good at it. I am not the Ren Faire equivalent of a rock star.

Right, then.

*image has been broken*

But you ARE the equivalent of a rock star!! Not everyone can ride a horse and hold a long stick...

And I love hearing about jousting, so there! (Hmm...have noticed that my posts have been ending with that phrase a lot...)

If it's a post on sheroes, regarding jousting, I think you're exactly the right person to be going into detail, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'd really like to hear your take on the Tamora Pierce/Robin McKinley horsewoman ouvre, actually.

Also, I have to say: You might *be* the Ren Faire equivalent of a rock star, but you're like one of those rock stars who is a fantastic musician and craftsperson, who is enthusiastic about her work and brings other people something special and ephemeral they mightn't otherwise have. And that's a good sort of rock star to be, IMHO.

You're not saving lives in the traditional sense, but you're telling stories and inspiring people to use their imaginations, which is a different sort of important (and sometimes life altering) altogether.

Also, you pursue your work for the love of it, and not to get noticed (or at least it's always seemed that way to me), which is a big distinction between artists and "celebs".

hopefully all this makes sense. sort of.

I find it fascinating and very appropriate, especially since you have more experience with medieval horse type stuff than....basically everyone else on the board. You obviously know what you're talking about, and it's something you're passionate about. I say talk about it all you like.

Kelly, if you EVER get to going on about how brilliant you are because you can ride a horse and hold a long stick at the same time, let alone HIT things with said long stick... I will not be poking you with sticks or reminding you that you're not saving lives.

I will be standing up applauding you for not thinking less of yourself. I will be standing up congratulating and hugging you for admitting that you DO do something absolutely wonderful, and you DO it absolutely wonderfully.

And by being a female jouster you ARE a RenFaire RockStar.

We all KNOW that you work hard at it to be as good as you are, but we're not going to be poking nyou with sharp sticks for saying that you're good, because, well, you're not the bigheaded "I'm perfect" jouster ego type. I KNOW you. In fact, I'm proud and pleased to know you.

And as far as posting about it on sheroes, you're our resident expert on it, so you darn well SHOULD post more than a two line answer. Honest. *will go off to find said answer in a moment*. The only poking you'd get is if you didn't respond to it... and you're likely to get far more poking if you post two lines than if you blither on for a few paragraphs.

And as for saving lives ... you save dreams. Isn't that important?

*hugs Kelly*

*screams fangirlishly* OH MY GOD!!!! IT'S KELLY! YOU KNOW, THE AMAZING ROCKSTAR JOUSTER?!?!??!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! *attacks kelly with paper for autographs and other fangirls*

Don't kid yourself, Mari--we absolutely adore and idolize your ability to ride around on a horse with a long stick. And envy you. And know we could never do it.

And we want all your jousting ranting, too. It's informative and educational and fascinating and reminds us how pathetically boring our own lives are.

So there.

jeez... my bad! I'm old, I lose track... situation rectified!

Uh uh. You're not old.

Actually, I don't know how old you are, but you don't LOOK old. Uh huh.

Just refer to uberlibra's and ratesjul's comments for my opinion. :)
And now I am going to have to remember to find that post on Sheroes... :)
