attn: those who were confused by the cryptic 'MM' in my previous post -

There is a surprisingly subversive, delightfully quirky and altogether unexpectedly awesome series airing on ABC Family. Not the usual fare for that channel - how many other shows on the squeaky-clean reference a 'hentai tentacle monster'? Or consistently use black boxes (with corresponding bleeps, of course) over potty mouths? And speaking of black boxes... well, that's another episode entirely, but if your mind went anywhere even slightly filthy, you're right on track.

The Middleman is that show, based on a series of comic books that I've yet to read and really ought and will link when I have the time to do so. I promise!

Pop culture references fly fast and furious. There's deadpan deliveries and nods to various genres and specific films and television shows. Blink (or listen to the unexpected ring of the phone) and you'll miss half a dozen shout-outs (namechecks? is that right?). But lest you think it's all kitsch and silliness, there are moments of utter loveliness, of connection and depth. This show is made of considerable win.

Oh, and lest you miss any of the aforementioned references whilst watching the show, there's themiddleblog. Everything you need to know and then some.
I feel: dorkydorky

Gotcha! Saw part of the "haunted tuba from the Titanic" episode at a friend's house and vowed to find out more - and have yet to follow through...

(What? No Tick icons?) *grin*

I watched on a whim the first episode, and have been in total love ever since. When they mentioned the oscilation overthruster in the last episode, I startled Jack with my squee.

It is truly a great show! Josh and I are watchers from day one!
