Today was my last Friday shift at the bookstore. I'm still there three days a week, but driving down to Paramus for a four hour shift? fmeh. Here's hoping things pick up at the gym so that I can work closer to home full time. Oh, please oh please oh please oh please oh please! I'd miss certain things about working at the bookstore. Thing is, most of those things have been out of my daily experience for months. I repeat: oh please oh please oh please!

Today was also Handsome Tom's Liberation Day. I came home, dosed the boyo with Frontline and pulled the locking panel out of the kitty door. It took him a couple of minutes of pawing and sniffing as well as a great deal of embarrassing pantomime on my part for him to figure it out, but he got the hang of it.* He bopped in and out, graciously accepting the treats I had to hand, and then ran over to the grass and rolled around for a good five minutes. Thrice now I've walked over to the gym, Tom by my side, and gone back inside. I want to instill in him a sense of home, of shelter, that that is where he will always find food and water and a snuggly bed. Here's hoping.

He is undeniably happy to be back outdoors. After making his rounds of the property, he flopped down under the gardening table and took a nap. Later, he went bounding after a baby bear. A not so tiny baby bear. HT stalked it. Clearly Tom feels proprietary about his turf.

Tom spent a good long while on my patio chairs, rolling about and purring and meowing his rusty-grumbly meow. Note his pretty manly purple collar.

Look at that sleek coat! That's de-worming and good food and lots and lots of brushing for you. I'd also like to point out he's a hint of chocolate brown amid the black. Very striking. The ladies at the vet's office were in raptures.

"Bring me tuna!" he cried. "At ONCE!"

Handsome. That's what this boy is.

Also, sleepy.

Not the best pics, 'cause I need to get my dad's zoom lens cleaned up and see if it's compatible with this camera. Still, Don cleaned them up for me. Excellent husbanding, there.

Look at that eye. Small, glowing with infernal fire...

Don and I have suspected that Thomas is a guardian kitty. This picture, and the fervor with which Tom went after the bear, add credence to that belief. Just sayin'.

The bear looks considerably less demonic here. Just scoping the treeline, looking for a good place to cross the road. My advice, demon-bear? Don't. Just... no. People drive ridiculously fast for such a twisty stretch. You're safer on this side.

Blurry pic, but worth it for the paw. How adorable is that paw?

*If he continues to use it, and to keep his collar on, I will be upgrading to the locking door that opens to a sensor on the collar. Thanks to my flist for their excellent advice!
I feel: goodgood

Kitties and bears. I still wish I could live up there.

*steals Handsome Tom*

*feels guilty*

*gives him back*

You're making me miss my kitty who probably would also attempt to stalk a bear. (He once attempted to stalk a duck, but it didn't work out so well)

I hope the working close to home works out for you. Those people at the hell-mouth can't really appreciate good people. It's just not in their nature.

Kitties and bears, wow...you do live in wonderland. I remember a photo I saw a few years back where a cat had chased a bear up a tree, not so scary or demonix, those bears....

I believe you should write a children's book starring sir Tom and his new found life....
just saying you are a brillian writer...
thanks for the smiles.
