Rain is flinging itself against the windows. The wind is rising, and still we hear the ominous *crack!* and *thud!* of falling branches.

Inside, though, a fire burns in the woodstove. Our kitties have turned their adorable levels to eleven; there is much snuggling and purring to be had.

I have to go to work tomorrow. There's a group of 6th graders coming to the store. I'm the 'yammer about books' girl, so even if it's crazy icy and gross, I have to find a way to make it in to the store. Which, by the way, more about at a later date. But for the next two weeks, I have to be there on Thursday.

grumble. grr. grawr.

Quick, unrelated question: A friend of mine is a writer of sorts. She's got a handful of short stories that are very good and she's interested in getting them published. And I thought you might be able to educate me on how she might go about trying to do that?

I'm actually working on that myself. As soon as I have any reliable info, I'll pass it along! In the meantime, she might want to check out the Writer's Market website.

Oh, oh, sixth grader story!

My friend volunteers at the local library.

I do not volunteer at the local library.

However, I usually go to the library about a half hour before she's done, we pick up books for children's lit, and grab food at Hannafords before walking back together. In this half hour, she usually makes me shelve books, and things like that. So, the other day this girl came up to me while I was shelving and says (in this snotty voice that only an 11 year old is capable of), "look, I need this stupid book so go get it for me."

We had a LOVELY time while I taught her how to search a card catalog and then go and find it in the library.

And then she complained about me to the head librarian and she looked over, sorta smiled and said, "oh, I'm sorry dear, I can't speak to her, she doesn't work here."

I love how pets help us pass the horrible winter blues. Bummer about work though.

Good Luck. Be safe on the roads.
