I'm avoiding the Dad-update. Just so's you know. It isn't, at present, imminently dire, but it is definitive. I'm fair knackered and scattered and I really don't want to post anything that isn't clear and carefully worded. Mayhap tomorrow. We shall see.

In the meanwhile, I give you the latest installment of the Saga of the iPony.

First of all, I remain delighted that Apple is going to fix this problem free of charge. That's all kinds of awesome, and I seriously appreciate any wrangling or negotiation that took place to make this happen.

However -

Free fix or not, you tell me it's going to be a week, tops, and two weeks on you've got nothing? GRAWR! I stopped at the store Monday last (wasn't ready, but the guy told me they expected the part in maybe later that day) and called on Tuesday (not done yet, so very sorry!). Wednesday was lost to Dad's plummet. Thursday I was still in CT and so no chance of picking the computer up even if it was ready to go. Today, though - Friday - Don gave a call to the store only to find that the LCD screen is on backorder. The woman he talked to noted the original estimated date of completion - 9/13 - and apologized profusely. She went on to say that they were calling around to other stores to see if anyone has the part on hand so that they can get this puppy pony fixed, posthaste.

This afternoon, another rep from the Apple store called and left a message on our machine. If they can't get the part form another store (and, by the bye, if they can, they're going to overnight it to our local store) then the backorder date is - wait for it - OCTOBER &*@#$! 27th. He went on to say that should they be unable to locate the part, we'd discuss options. Which is sort of awesome, to be sure, and he sounded very nice and abashed and apologetic. I can't fault them for trying, and I certainly can't fault their follow-up. But seriously? the problem with my iPony was a manufacturer error. Fix It Now, thank you.

*grumble* I'm being unreasonable, I know. Everyone at Apple has been ever so nice and I ought to cut them some slack.

Common problem ==> parts shortage.

That's one sucky backlog, especially when the ipony is in their possession. :(

I'm trying so very hard to not be a Bad Customer. It is frustrating, though.

People are asking about you at work. Especially Marilu. She wanted to be sure that I told you that she's thinking of you.

thanks for letting me know! Poor Marilu and Amaryllis got to see me at my worst on Wednesday, trying so hard NOT to cry as I talked to Don on the phone.

oh and if you need any "key" words to use if the issue persists longer let me know I know what buttons to push.
- seriously- long repairs hurt them too as they are gauged by their turn around time.

The guy who left the message was all kinds of apologetic. I appreciate that, and that they do know how ridiculously long this is taking. Still want my computer back, though.
