In today's gardening news:

My cucumbers and parsley have recovered beautifully in the wake of the Great Whistle Pig Caper. I actually have insane amounts of parsley, as well as sage and basil. The thyme is fine, but nowhere near as prodigious. Any suggestions for a surfeit of herbs would be most welcome.

The black pepper plant (I wish I knew exactly what it was; the leaves are purple/black, and the peppers are growing up rather than depending from their stems. They're tear-drop shaped and glossy purple/black, though I was told they'd ripen to red. Oh, and the flowers were a slightly lighter shade of dark purple). The other hot peppers continue to flourish and hey! I have two sweet red bell pepperlets! woooo!

Ripening is happening apace in beefsteak tomatoland, but they're of a very mushy consistency. *sigh* I have a long, hard slog this winter, trying to figure out "What the Hell" and "How to Fix." And my grape tomatoes, which look like small cherry tomatoes, are still green inside (and slightly bitter) even when they appear ripe.

Something has eaten all of my petunias and a good portion of my impatiens. grawr.

mewf. when it comes to tomatoes, next year you might want to check some heirloom tomatoes out. mom tries out a different variety every year, and i know that she loves seeing the different flavors. :D

I would love to give heirlooms a go! Hopefully I won't muck it up. Seriously, though, I think I need to do some serious preparation of the soil before next season. High clay content may be the culprit, or at least partly to blame.

Oh, and &hearts right back at you. *smooooooooch*

When in doubt, make pesto :)

I think I will. That takes care of the basil, anyway, but what on earth do I do with handsful and handsful of sage?

Take on the mantle of evil-slayer and hunt down the ghosts of restless spirits across the realm, smudging each defiled place that you pass until the leaves are withered ash before you?

Actually... yeah. Maybe I will dry it and bind it into smudge sticks. How the heck did that not occur to me?

Only I'm not cool enough to be an evil-slayer, alas.

Even so, I &hearts you muchly. :)
