I'm too bloody stupid to understand how to use bloody torrents and Don is asleep and I'll probably not see the Doctor Who season finale until next bloody week.

And yes, I know it's stupid to be this cranky about a blasted TV show, but there it is.

I also ate sugar today for the first time in nigh on three months and I've been eating badly for the past few days all told so I'm feeling very much out of sorts and my body hates me a whole lot. Deservedly so.

1. Download a .torrent client, such as BitTorrent or Azureus (I quite like Azureus).

2. Go to a torrent site like Demonoid or Mininova and find the torrent you want.

3. Click on the link; it'll ask whether you want to save or open the file. Say 'open', and it should open in your torrent client, which will then begin to download the episode.

Keep in mind that it's peer-to-peer, so when selecting torrents, pick the ones with the most "seeders" (i.e. people who have the entire file and are now just hosting it) and the fewest "leechers" (people who don't have the entire file and are downloading it). Also, when a file downloads, it downloads little bits at a time, taking different chunks from different seeders - so when a file is 50% done, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the first half, just that half the file has been downloaded - it could be the last half, it could be a quarter in to a quarter from the end, it could be every other second.

One last thing - there's one torrent for the DW finale that you want to avoid: the XviD-AFFiNiTY release has ridiculously out-of-synch audio. The others should be fine.

Hope this helps!

*glomps!* It helps immensely. I'd already downloaded Tomato Torrent (someone recommended that to me ages ago), but had no idea how to find or actuall download files.

Unfortunately, I was so excited about downloading, I clicked on the first link to the show I found at mininova (avoiding, albeit, the one you cautioned me against.) It has 1277 seeders and 980 leechers. Is this going to be bad, do you think?

Ah, well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm about about 10% downloaded and 3 hrs. 20 min. (is this fast or slow? I am so completely clueless).

In any case, thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Oh, and happy graduation!

A high number of seeders is more important than a low number of leechers - because even leechers, as they're downloading the file, are uploading bits of the file they already have. And speeds depend on so many completely random factors (how many people are uploading, how many people are downloading, your internet connection) that I'd say three hours is pretty good - torrents will pretty much always take longer than straight downloads, often by a pretty wide margin.

Why thank you! :D

As for my two cents, I tend to have the best luck with mininova. Best of luck, Kel.

BTW: I miss you... a lot. You, me, Don, Katie... that would be a day towards which I would look forward.

You don't know me but I love you and the other poster both forever. I couldn't find the episode to watch online and was very sad at the thought of having to wait. Now I have it, and very fast.

You would totally love Greg in RL, too. It's impossible not to! :)

Out of curiosity, how fast did you get it? I'm not sure if my download is relatively quick; I may want to try another torrent client.

Hee. If this works, I'm completely going to start hunting down 'Life on Mars.'

I think it took just over an hour. Considering I have patiently spent solid weeks downloading torrents in the past, that is like lightning!

Where's the doctor/kitty pic from, by the way?

It's from the DW Confidential for 'Gridlock.' Love your icon, by the way!

Glad to be of help. Were it not for mininova, I would've had to wait at least a year before seeing season three of Battlestar.

Thanks, hon! I went with mininova and I'm hoping to have the ep within *checks progress* 2 hrs. 26 min. yaye!

BTW: Me, too. Very much. I know you and Katie are busy, but any chance of figuring out when can we make that day happen?

Had I any kind of foresight, I would've said this weekend, as we both didn't have any rehearsals. But, seeing as I do not. How about next Sunday? We'll both be up on site and should be free at one.

Next Sunday I'm performing at a mini-Faire in Wappinger's Falls.

Grah... Perhaps a weekday night? Any good for you? Otherwise, we're probably looking at October or after.

3 hours for a 1 hour episode is a VERY good download speed on a torrent. I've had poorly populated torrents take a week.
