this just in:

I suspect I might have subsituted 'win' for 'molasses,' 'cause my baked beans are awesome!

Also? Barley cooks up huge. It's no little bit alarming.

I can't really claim credit, save for my manual labour and tweaking of the recipe I found here. It's sort of a shortcut, since you're using canned baked beans (I used Bush's Best Vegetarian (no high fructose corn syrup; every other brand had them) but it still involves two hours' baking time.

My tweaking was to cut the brown sugar to half a cup (and I think I could go to 1/3 or 1/4 with no discernible difference), use less bacon and no ham.

If you're vegetarian (and I'm lame because I'm not sure) check out this recipe. I haven't made it, but it looks good.

Also willing to share the recipe for the happyhappyhappy grilled chicken with barley I made tonight. mmmmmm. Joyous flavors. This 'diet' isn't so bad.
