Here's the deal, folks: I haven't been to kickboxing since Sunday. I know, I know... I was being so diligent! Well, this week, my body decided in no uncertain terms that it was Not Up To The Task. I'll spare you the details; let's just say I felt rather dodgy.

This morning, I awoke feeling bleargh-ish. "Nice try, body," said I. "But you're going to class tonight. Suck it up."

My body pouted the rest of the day. Big baby.

Having missed four (!) days, I figured I ought to make up for lost time. I fully threw myself into running, jumping rope, painful and endless ab work... by the time we started working on the bags, I felt lightheaded and no little bit nauseous. Nice try, my body taunted. Suck it up! I whimpered and swiped ineffectually at the bag. I found no joy in the Batman moves, no delight in the challenge of kick combinations. Mostly, I was trying to breathe and not be physically ill. I made it - and when I say that it was by the skin of my teeth, you'll just have to take my word for it. I actually went up to the instructor and apologized for being such a fracking wuss. Seriously, every time she passed my bag, I had paused in an attempt to muster a bit of strength to carry on. The instructor told me that I'd done a great job, and even if I didn't feel that way, every one - even people who have been doing this for years - has their off days. Of course, she might have just been saying that because I looked ghastly, and she wanted my last moments to be filled with comfort and support.

I've been out of class for about forty minutes now, and my tummy is finally settling. Here's hoping this is over and done with.
I feel: sicksick

Try ginger root, ginger ale, or spearmint tea to help settle your stomach.

I hope you feel better soon!

As many an instructor has reminded me, there are moments of extreme chaos before everything re-organizes itself into a higher level of order. The microuniverse of the body must follow the same laws as the big one outside.

Probably, this was one of those pre-organization-chaos moments.

Were you wearing Po Mo pink?

But you LOOK hot. Let's pull out the bad-ass mittens and do that crouch-jab thing you like…
