Here it is, my poppets: I’m out of shape and steaming towards creaky ol' middle age and fully dissatisfied with a number of aspects of my life. Shan’t go into that last bit, but considering the first... what’s a girl to do?

Why, take cardio-kickboxing classes, of course! I took a trial class about two weeks past . It’s HARD!!! (young_will can attest to this) Take my natural clumsiness, couple it with near-crippling shyness around people I do not know, add in an hour long, non-stop workout including stretching, strength training, massive amounts of cardio and lots and lots of beating the living frell out of a heavy bag, and lo! HARD!!!

But if the way my body felt the next day is an accurate measure, the session worked every muscle in my body. Even my hair ached. If I go three times (minimum) for the ten week course, I can’t help but shape up a bit. Right? Right? And let’s face it, kids: I miss stage combat. Desperately. The chance to hit things somewhat ameliorates that ache.

I’ll be combining my ten week course with sensible eating (or die trying! not really, but you get the idea) and we shall see what we shall see.

On a side note, my hooks sort of rock. Who knew?
I feel: determineddetermined
I hear: kitty purring

Tell me if you end up doing the New York Renn Faire next season--I'll actually be in New York for college, and I fully plan on going. :D

I totally feel you sister... I got myself a membership at Bally's and don't go near enough as I should., and it usually kicks my ass. Here's to the hardship of getting healthier.

You miss stage combat... I miss your stage combat. I wanted to work with you dagnabit.
Well, there is the Mayfaire. I got a shiny new shield for X-mas.

Kelly just became more dangerous. Somewhere, the forces of darkness just shuddered and didn't know why.

We shall be svelt in no time!

And yes, there is something oh-so-satisfying about hitting the heavy bag, isn't there? I was in the best shape of my life when I was training 5 days a week when I was taking karate... the thing I miss the most is that bag!

frakkin A! Just remember NOT to knap! The point IS to hit something.
Also good therapy for when you want to vent off stress. I have a Wave bag in the basement ( wish ceiling was higher so I could do some serious kickin')
I would also buy a jumprope ( were I you ) to build up stamina.

Oooh! How fun :) Yes, you will definitely see a change after ten weeks. You'll probably start seeing changes much sooner than that, in fact.

...now I really want to take a kickboxing class, even though I know it would literally kill me.

I need to get in shape too. I don't eat all that unhealthily (especially for a twenty-something who doesn't cook) but I never exercise. I've been thinking of signing up for a dance class but I've always though kick boxing sounded like fun too. I'll have to see what days and what classes my school offers.

P.S. This icon was made for this entry and others like, wasn't it? Would you like to steal it?
harpiegirl4harpiegirl4 on January 22nd, 2007 10:54 am (UTC)

May I steal it too?

Sure! I have several similar to it (I have so many Starbuck icons that it's a little bit unhealthy), I could post them and see if you (or Kel) like any of them more. Though, I must admit, this was my favorite of the ones that feature Starbuck boxing.

Awesome! I wanna see, I wanna see! :)

Consider it stolen, and thanks!

Face it, to be truly satisfying, physical exercise must involve some element of danger.

For the other guy, that is.

Happily, I've found a way to stay in shape that precludes the need for discrete exercise: it's called farming.

At the moment, however, I've got a sore foot, thanks to dropping about 250 lbs of potroast on it: an ungrateful yearling trammeled my poor left foot while I was loosening her collar.

The sore foot has been dragging me down for a couple of weeks, which is really quite depressing. When you're in the habit of hard work seven days a week, taking a few days off to heal is nearly impossible! But arnica and Advil are quite a combination.

BTW, it looks like Beltane will fall on Monday, April 30th this year, and there is a calf fattening up for the big day. Hope to see you both then!

No kidding! I miss my days on horse farms. I've never been in better shape than when I was mucking stalls and hauling hay bales, sacks of grain and endless buckets of water, and wrangling sweet but unruly foals. And I know that's not even a fraction of what you do, so I do fully stand in awe.

Arnica is Magic. I found that out through jousting rather than farming, mind, but still... hope your foot heals quickly!

We hope to see you, too!
