In its current issue, Wizard Magazine has a column called 'They Said It... the best quotes from comices, movies TV and pop culture icons." Doctor Who made it. Woohoo, yes? Well, mostly yes.

I'll put the rest beneath a cut in case you haven't seen Doctor Who: Series One.

So. There's a picture of CE (from 'Father's Day,' if I'm not mistaken) and the following quote and attribution: "Rose, you were fantastic. And so was I." - Christopher Eccleston's last words as The Doctor on the season finale of "Dr. Who."

Anyone who has seen 'Parting of the Ways' is with me immediately: the quote? She is WRONG!

I've drafted a quick letter to Wizard. Mind, it is only a first draft. Feedback is certainly welcome as I'll be revising this before I send it off.

Ah, Wizard,

Just when I thought I couldn’t adore you any more, you include a nod to the brilliant Christopher Eccleston and his portrayal of The Doctor on p. 21(issue #179). Only... how shall I put this delicately?... you got the quote wrong. Nine’s final words, you noted, were “Rose, you were fantastic. And so was I.”

Close. So very close! After taking the Time Vortex from Rose and into himself and thereby necessitating Regeneration, the Ninth Doctor’s last utterance was, “And before I go, Rose... before I go, I just want to tell you: you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I.”

I understand whoever selected the quote might not have my attention (some would call it obsessiveness but hey, “tomayto/tomahto”) to Ninth Doctor detail. It might just be that they preferred brevity over accuracy. Too, they might have lacked access to Tivo or DVR and thereby missed the chance to play the last ten minutes over and over and over and over and wondering when, for pity’s sake, were they going to stop getting teary-eyed the moment Rose said, “I want you safe - my Doctor”.

Whatever the case, these were Nine’s last words, artfully penned by Russell T. Davies and delivered beautifully by Eccleston. A little respect, if you please. I’m just saying.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, my geek is showing.

Respectfully,

blah de blah blah

Yep. I'm dorky.

which will spawn this errata:

"Rose... you were fantastic... and... so was I."

Despite the unavoidable surfeit of ellipses, I can live with that. At least it makes the attempt.

Truth be told, I tend to get rather ellipsis-happy in my everyday writing. *pause for feigned surpise/shock/"well I never!"* The point is that there was so much more to what he said in that moment. To just gloss over it was wrong. Wrong, I tells ya!

Awesome. Nice letter, not too irate.

I whole-heartedly approve. :)

woohoo!

I sent it on. We shall see what happens. There are two likely outcomes:

1. They acknowledge the letter and lambaste my geekiness in their letters page

or

2. They ignore it utterly.

Yep, you are dorky. But, words is words and if someone's going to quote them, might as well do it correctly. Its all part of the downfall of the language, I'm sure of it.

Oh, and by the way.....miss you.

As both actor and writer, I really feel that the writer's words should be given their due. Sure, actors sometimes have to deal with sucky writing, but that is so not the case here. And part of the reason CE was so gung-ho to play this part was that RTD would be writing/producing. So, yes. Words, words, words.

And I miss you too. Very much. *squish*
