Sometimes I wonder how I manage to make it through a day.

I just went out to get the mail. I wandered back up the driveway, rifling through a catalogue. As I neared the back door, I heard a sound in the woods. I turned. Nothing was there. Hmm. I turned back to the door and gasped, leaping back, as I caught sight of someone through the glass...

... or should I say, on the glass. Yes, my own reflection just scared the living bejeezus out of me.

sheesh.

I feel: shockedeep!

Of course -- considering your friendly neighborhood bears -- being aware of your surroundings is not such a bad idea.

"Regarded apart from its reflection, the mirror presents a continuous, flat, colourless, unrelieved surface, – a thing always and obviously unpleasant. Considered as a reflector, it is potent in producing a monstrous and odious uniformity: and the evil is here aggravated, not in merely direct proportion with the augmentation of its sources, but in a ratio constantly increasing. In fact, a room with four or five mirrors arranged at random, is, for all purposes of artistic show, a room of no shape at all. If we add to this evil, the attendant glitter upon glitter, we have a perfect farrago of discordant and displeasing effects."

I did the same thing to myself. I was doing a job in a victorian mansion in a white dress and I was showing my stepfather the bathroom in the back; an unlit part of the house. I turned and saw a semi-transparent girl in a white victorian dress....i.e. me in a full length window and screamed like a banshee. My stepfather almost had a heart attack and my mother almost burst into tears.

So, don't you worry. As embarrassing as you think it was for you, at least you didn't take others down with you!
