Shan's Mercy!
I am such a dork.

On Monday evening, 'round about 6:30 p.m., a cardinal lit upon the iron hook that holds my bird feeders. It sat, facing west, for several minutes. "Hmmmm," thought I. And then the bird flew away.

On Tuesday evening, 'round about the same time, a cardinal once again landed on the iron hook. Once again, it faced west. It chirped. It cocked its head as if it were looking throught the door to where I stood, bemused. Once again, it flew away.

This evening, just before 7:00, a cardinal lit upon the iron hook. Facing westward, it sang. After looking at it for a minute, I blurted, "What is it?" Nothing. "Is it Fence?" And it flew away, into the west. And I was ridiculously excited.

And I am a dork.

If you get to go, send a cardinal for me when you get there.

Yes, but did you run around your kitchen ater spying a black-capped chickadee, screaming "Black-capped chickadee! Black-capped chickadee!" until you ran into some furniture, and scared the damn thing away as you got to the window with your camera?

Then you're not so much of a dork.

Errr, and that wasn't me who did the above stuff.

Black capped chickadees are frequent guests at my feeder. There are more black capped chickadees than you could shake a stick at. I know, because I tried, and they swarmed about, relieved me of the stick and shook it back at me.

Or not. But there are quite a few. And two pairs of goldfinches that have been coming to my thistle feeder every day for the past four days. Woot!

What a strange little bird. I wonder what its doing. Maybe you're part of its _safe_ routine.
