serious Oracle

Getting back into the groove

I had my first fight rehearsal for school days. Mind, I've not picked up a weapon since closing day of Faire last year. And I've put on weight. I'm not as fit as I was - nowhere near, in fact. Quarterstaff is not my best weapon. I just don't have a lot of experience with it, and I know darned well I second guess my fight abilities with weapons I do know.

All that aside, it went well. Dan was remarkably mellow - always a lovely thing. And I'm fighting C. I've only fought her once before (if you don't count my very first joust ground fight), also for a School Days show. We had a rapier/dagger fight that I still look back on with longing. She is just gorgeous, and she moves beautifully. I am fully counting on her to make me look good!

As awkward and mushy and uncoordinated as I felt, it is so very good to be getting back into Faire mode. I love having a weapon in my hand. I love working up a nice sweat from running patterns over and over. I even love the unusual muscle aches the next day. I love that I have an opportunity to do this, and that I get paid for the privilege. I love, and am honoured and humbled, that I work with such tremendously talented people.
