Hey, flist! You're all smarter than me, so...
Why would I want to 'download a client?' In the LJ capacity, not that of Paid Escort.

Have any of you done so? Are there real benefits to doing so?

I am curious.

ETA: I have a Mac, if that makes any difference.

I use Semagic, which is a Windows based client. I find it useful for a number of reasons...

(1) If I am somewhere without internet access (on my laptop) or if for some reason there is no access at home (has happened) I can still type in my entry, and save a draft until I get access again.

(2) You know how you can enter < lj user = mynock25 > and it looks like this: mynock25? With Semagic (and some other clients) I can make it look like this: mynock25Jamie. (You could do this through the website, but it's quite a bit of HTML to type up.)

(3) Semagic reminds me of my friends birthdays.

(4) The programs let you know of updates as the come out (if you have it set to check, which can easily be done through the options menu). They come out as often as LJ itself adds features, so you don't loose anything.

(5) If you are feeling lazy about HTML coding, you can use standard key combinations for text formating. (Ex: ctrl + b will automatically add the < b > / < / b > around your text.) For things that don't have key commands, there are option buttons. (Like changing text size.)

Basically, clients give you all the LJ features, but allow you to be lazy about it.

I have one. I forget the name, it's just the frist windows client I think.

I like it becuase it spellchecks fairly well. Also because I can look at my journal while composing an entery.

The client also prevents LJ from eating my posts. If the sever doesn't work the text stays around.

Semagic has lots of nice fetures, like tag suport. But it's build it spellchecker sucks, and I really need the spellchecker.

Hi,

Sorry to barge in on you, but I also use a Mac. I swear by iJournal. it allows me to post, back-post, control almost anything but tags. It also helps format without having to memorize code.

Hope this helps.

*PS - We've met several times, most recently at the Days Past shoot. There's a present for you here. :)
