I may be hauling around an extra twenty (and then some) pounds. My skin may suck in a number of ways, autoimmune disorder being only a part of it. I may have no torso to speak of, a weak chin, perpetual circles beneath my eyes and an inelegant nose.

I can forget all of that, even if it is just for a few moments, because someone complimented my hair. She was tall, slim, great bone structure. As I looked up a book for her, she said, seemingly out of the blue, "You have the prettiest hair."

I blinked. "Erm. Thank you." Keep in mind, it is fast going gray (MEGA gray roots. I mean - whoa), is two months past my last scheduled haircut (which I still need to reschedule; heh) and was a bit limp.

"Is that your natural curl?"

"Erm. Yes."

She shook her head, her own lovely, straight honey-golden hair swinging about her shoulders. "You are so lucky."

So there it is. I am that shallow. "Nice hair!" = reprieve from self loathing.

Sit back and
Enjoy it. Isn't it nice when a complete stranger says something like that?
See, you have great hair...and a very good cut..
