My friends? I completely failed.

I tried to tie up some loose Christmas shopping ends today: Harry and David (two x-mas, one birthday (mother-in-law, go me!), Verizon store, Apple store, stocking stuffers for Don...

And then. I came out of the Verizon store, which is on my hometown's very picturesque main street, and lo! There was a boutique. Now, we got something for Aunt Julia. But we'd considered buying a fun, funky piece of jewelry for her, too, and so I thought, "Hey! Shopping locally? Good! I'll just take a look."

I bought a pair of earrings. For myself. They're dangly and cool and cost waaaaaay more than I ever should have spent. Keep in mind I don't like to spend more than ten bucks on an item of clothing for myself. These earrings: $26.00.

I suck. But I love them.

You could always wrap them up and put them under the tree with a "From Mrs. Claus" sticker. :0)

Buying presents for yourself is not failure by any means, if it is than I am COMPLETE failure, cause I do it all the time. Join me in my failure -- it's fun!

You know what? sometimes buying yourself things is a good way to keep yourself motivated to buy things for others.

...or at least that's how it works for me.

That, my dear, is NOT failure! That is taking care of yourself! You deserve nice things too, and if you are feeling guilty, I think someone else suggested that you wrap them up as a gift, or give them to Don to give to you. My family gets very dressed up for christmas eve dinner, so part of my christmas shopping every year, includes buying something nice for myself to wear. (this year it was a purple velvet short blazer jacket)

You are never a failure...you did a great job shopping!!! (I am scrambling to get my shopping done, you've been inspiring me to get out there and get done too!) and gorgeous earrings for $26...that's a bargain! Plus they make you happy, and that's the best of all.

I, too, hate buying stuff for myself (am uncomfortable with gifts too feeling like I am undeserving -- not the point here sorry for the digression). I slipped up before we went to Israel -- a big slip.... almost $500 of new iPod....

I rationalize... you can too.... figure it this way: you spent $26 total. B-day gift for yourself (Dec. 18, right?? subtract $10), Christmas gift for yourself (subtract $10)... therefore, you only spent an excess of $6 on yourself :).

Kel -- you deserve to be good to you too and I'm sure Don agrees that you are worth waaaaaayyyyy more than a $26 pair of earrings!!
