Yesterday morning I couldn't find Isabeau. She normally curls up on the couch after I feed her, or at the foot of the bed. It would seem that she finally became wise to the fact that we have a bird feeder in the back yard. She and Jilly, in identical positions, were curled up, noses pressed to the glass of the back door, watching three squirrels. I tossed out some more Critter Crunch then ran downstairs to retrieve laundry from the dryer. I came back upstairs rather briskly; I had a train to catch, after all.

As I passed the sliding glass door, I froze. Nibbling at the Critter Crunch were not, as I expected, three squirrels, but three deer. Not half a dozen feet from my door. There was a good sized doe, a much smaller one, and a teeny tiny fawn. I've never seen one so wee. It was still a bit wobbly. Mama Deer and I looked at each other for a while; I didn't want to move. Then, she nudged her baby back into the woods. The third deer followed.

So much for waking Don up to see that, thought I. But when I went back into the kitchen, mid-sized deer had returned, and apparently had no problem with me moving around and making noise so long as there was corn on the ground.

Have I mentioned I love where I live?

We had a rabbit visit us yesterday. Ed just yanked the door open and it startled him but he motioned me over and we basically had a staring fest until he/she took their time hopping away. I threw out some lettuce in case the wee one came back. :)
