Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States
President Bush, responding to a question about Amnesty International's allegations of human rights violations at Guantanamo stated that the detainees who made the complaints are "people who hate America, people that have been trained in some instances to disassemble, that means not tell the truth."

No, Mr. President. It does not. It means 'to take apart.'

Honestly. Disassemble.

I think you phrased it perfectly. ^_^

There are no less than three books of 'Bushisms' out there. What a legacy he shall leave - that and depleted natural resources and a shattered American credibility, that is.

But I digress... :P

I was listening to it from the other room. When he said that, I could hear the smirk. I soon after changed the channel.

...What an idiot.

That would be funny if it wasn't so worrying. He of all people ought to know the difference.

Words to describe this just escape me -- my brain is trying to make sense of it -- and failing. Sigh

...and he's our Leader...He was (surprisingly enough) VOTED into power...I'm afraid. Seriously.

Hee. Hee. Hee.

It wouldn't be half so bad if he didn't actually TELL us the definition incorrectly, if he'd just left it at the mis-speaking.

I know!!! That's really what gets me. You could hear the pause after he said 'disassemble.' I can just imagine the faces of the reporters, carefully blank. And our President thought, "Hmmm. They don't understand my high-falutin' language. I'd best spell it out for them."

Yikes.

*facepalm*

That is terrifying, that's what that is. Literacy is a wonderful thing, Mr. President

I don't care if it is all artifice (and I do doubt that it is) designed to uphold the 'good ol' boy' image. You are the President, sir. You represent our country. You are on a level with other leaders of this world. At least make a stabe at being articulate.

Oh, and Mr. President? It is NOOK-LEE-UHR. ('cause you can never remind him often enough()

HA! He just likes saying Dubbya-Em-Dees cause is sounds like his name. Good old George dubbya, filling in the evolutionary chart one step at time. (not to mention making us look so very, very good to the world at large)

For the life of me, all I could think of was the weasel in Who Framed Roger Rabbit saying "You want we should disresemble the place?"

I've never been happier for that icon, I tell you.

No disassemble. Number 5, alive!

Maybe he was quoting Short Circuit. :-P

Okay, that made me laugh out loud. You know, that really pretty bark/guffaw of amusement?

I presume he meant "dissemble", which to be fair, he wouldn't have to mangle too much to turn it into "dissassemble".

So I guess instead of a semblance of the facts, there was a dissemblance of the facts. And a disturbance in the force.
