For some reason, a snippet of Maddy Prior's 'The Sovereign Prince' lodged itself into my brain. I haven't heard that song in three years, at the very very least. An odd song, but fantastic lyrics. The Gloriana bits are gorgeous:

"And Gloriana in stiff starched lace
with pearls in her hair
and thunder on her face
Screams with rage; Has God left this place?"

and the snippet of Raleigh's 'The Passionate Pilgrim,' at the end, is so very right:

"Give me my scallop shell of quiet
My staff of faith to walk upon
My scrip of joy, immortal diet
My bottle of salvation
My gown of glory, hope'ds true gauge
And thus I'll take my pilgrimage."

I added the entire album to my ipod.

Pity Happy Families seems to be out of print. Mainly because 'Bewcastle' is sweet and spare and pretty, as is 'Alex.' The latter makes me a wee bit weepy.
