Funny. Papa Pat had a full Catholic funeral Mass. I think that anyone who knew him from Faire would be a bit surprised at this. For anyone on my flist not involved in the New York Renaissance Faire, Papa Pat (Pat Batista) was our blacksmith and an all round good guy. He was also, to my knowledge, thoroughly pagan. But then again, I just found out he was a pastor in the Celtic Christian Church. As well, Pat served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army, and came out of retirement to assist with the relief efforts at Ground Zero after 9/11/2001, administering Last Rites, and comforting those in need. (snagged from a lovely tribute on another performer's blog). Guess he was one of those people that embrace the light, no matter where it shines.

Don and I didn't make it to the viewing, so we missed seeing some folks who had come earlier. Still, the turnout at the church was wonderful. Pat was much loved, and will be sorely missed. I don't know that this will really hit me until I walk onto the grounds for School Days next spring. The forge, for the first time in 27 years, will be silent and cold.

Interesting. I guess that's what his family wanted. Glad you guys got to go.
Somehow, the Shire became a little less "Magickal"...
