There's not been much activity kitchen-wise of late.

Until today. Well, until yesterday, but I've been all kinds of busy and unable to give a proper report on progress, setbacks and amusing hijinks. Y'know, that may well be the first time I've ever typed the word 'hijinks.' It doesn't come up all that often, more's the pity.

Anyway, there will be a full account of the (almost) completion of the kitchen, but for now I shall let you feast your eyes upon this:

There are countertops. There is a dishwasher. There is molding atop the cabinets. There is a surprisingly glorious sink and a faucet that is way too much fun to play with. I'd tell you more, but I have to go check on the ziti that's in the oven... the working oven.

Honestly, guys? I don't have the words. My house is still a mess, most of the kitchen is in bins in the basement and I can't begin to tell you how much washing up I have to do. But my oven works. I can soak pots in my sink. That's a whole lot of yay.

Bonus! A not-entirely-color-accurate close up of the v. shiny countertop in late afternoon sun:

Very nice! :-)

Something I've noticed from your tales of renovation and my own experience...have you ever noticed that the tradesmen whose work you like best are also the ones who like your pets and/or your pets like them? I swear the critters know something we don't...'cuz the creep that did my porch and yard kept complaining that the outside cats were mean.

so far, everyone who's worked on this project has, at the very least, been amused by the kitties. Today, we had two plumbers hard at work. One of them was, apparently, highly allergic to kittie. Despite that, he was charmed by Esme (and he also commented on the lack of allergic reaction while he was in my home, which either speaks to my brilliant houskeeeping (HA!) or the fact that my cats are magical)>

in short: I totally agree with you! :D

Our very nice Hispanic workers who fixed the house post fire also seemed quite amused by our cats, when they caught a glimpse. Since I don't speak Spanish, I don't actually know what they were saying, but I recognized them saying "gato" from time to time in an amused tone.

I loved those guys. They also sang.
