It's nearly six and I've still got a mad amount of cleaning to do. I wouldn't sweat it so much if I weren't teaching the 9:15 class tomorrow morning. As it is, I'll finish there, clean up the gym and then race home to shower and change and cook what still needs cooking and ice what wants icing.

I've been up since five a.m. (well, much earlier, but more on that in another post. maybe. if I remember to post about it, that is). I worked until eleven and ran errands on the way home. Got here at just after one o'clock and immediately started chopping and mixing and fretting that I wasn't going to have enough time. I did, however, take a break to skritch Handsome Tom. He patiently bore a reapplication of ointment to the ouchie on his head, then flopped over so I could rub his belly. Thomas really is the loveliest, mushiest old tomcat. After kitty time it was back to the kitchen to toil and stew.

As to what's done and what needs doing, that's petty boring Kellystuff, so I'll put it behind a cut. I'll likely edit those lists each time I realize I forgot something.

Done:
~coleslaw ingredients are chopped and mixed
~bruschetta topping is prepped
~cake is baked
~marinade is mixed. chicken is bathing in it.
~one countertop is thoroughly clean
~bathroom curtains and shower curtain are presoaking

To do (mostly tomorrow, save for the cleaning):
~make dressing for coleslaw
~make frosting and ice/decorate cake
~make burgers (Don wants to do this; I shan't argue)
~make potato salad w/dijon vinaigrette (only if I start to panic that I don't have enough food)
~slice zucchini for grilling; also, prep any veggies for the burgers
~rehang clean, (hopefully) dry bathroom draperies
~clean my whole blasted house

Hmmm. It occurs to me (after two sips of wine and an inexplicable lightheadedness) that I haven't eaten since I snarfed a couple of handsful of trail mix at around ten this morning. oops!

I feel: stressedstressed

Happy Fourth! I hope you post a picture of the cake. :)

Did you ever put a note on Handsome Tom's collar and find out if he has any humans to call his own?

Happy Fourth to you, too! I'll take a picture of the cake. In my mind's eye it's perfect, a sight to behold... but in reality, it's likely going to be a bit lopsided and horrible quirky.

And no, I never did the collar bit. I'm sort of afraid to find out that he doesn't belong to anyone at all. Still, maybe I'll give it a go...

I asked partially because if you're putting ointment on his head...well it sounds like you don't think he has humans of his own. You'd mentioned earlier that you were resisting treating him for fleas in case he'd already been treated.

Maybe he does have humans though...maybe that's why he went missing, if he got hurt and they confined him for a few days. Either way, at least you'll know.

I've never got the hang of making my cakes look pretty. My SIL does amazing things with cake decor,(oh if we ever joined forces!), but I think mine taste better, and if I can only have one of the two virtues in my cakes, I'll take the one I have.

After all, I make them to eat! :)
