Gosh. It's been nine days since I last posted. And - let's be honest - my entries have been few and far between of late. It's not as it nothing is happening. I mean, I never posted about ComicCon. Or WizardWorld Philly. Or other things that aren't as steeped in geekiness. Seriously, there are the odd moments in my life that have naught to do with comic books or scifi TV or kittypicspam or books or general nerdosity. They're rare, sure, but still...

As some of you may recall, when last I left you I was bereft of hot water. "But, what happened*?" you've been asking yourselves. "Is Kelly still showering in just-shy-of-arctic waters? Has she eschewed showering altogether?" My apologies. I did not leave to mean you in such suspense. A few days later (that's right: days) the part came in. Don worked from home on the day the plumber returned and so kept me apprised. Turns out the upper thermostat of the water heater was completely blown. As in 'explodey.' Stuff was coming out of the coils. The plumber replaced both thermostats, just to be on the safe side. Since the water heater had just been replaced in February, this fell under the warranty. Sweet. It's almost enough to make one forget the inconvenience of heating water for washing dishes and distressingly cold showers.

So. There's that sussed out. And yes, there was another homeowner crisis. Well, inconvenience. Well, turns out it was potentially deadly serious. That's right: potentially deadly.

More on that later, though, for I've a bit of news I want to shout from the rooftops: my sister Kerry** graduated from nursing school this past Thursday! She seriously rocked the LPN program. She's one of those crazy smart and fully annoying people who can flourish without studying; she just absorbs all of the material. All of her teachers loved her, and so did anyone she treated while in clinical. She's going to be taking her boards soon, and then going for her RN, but in the meanwhile, she's still officially a nurse! Who refuses to wear anything but Grey's Anatomy scrubs, but then that's the mad diva*** in her. Now, Kerry doesn't yet have an LJ account, but she does occasionally post here as 'anonymous.' That means she'll see any congratulations you may wish to offer, so feel free to do so! Also, poke her about getting her job applications in.

*Alternatively, you might have thought, "Hey, wha' haaaapppened?", no doubt followed hard on by "I can't do my woooork!" and "I don't THINK so!". You know who you are.

**for those of you who don't know her, my sister is smart, funny, strong, petite and adorable. She's can also be a bit acerbic, has a bit of a temper and used to have huge Eighties Rocker Girl hair. Just trying to be even-handed, here. Seriously, though: she's worked very hard to get to where she is, and I really could not be prouder.

***not really, but I thought it was so funny they even made such a line of scrubs that I warned Ker I was going to tease her about wearing them. I don't like to go back on my word.

That's right: potentially deadly.
"We could have died, but never mind all that, we obviously didn't, and so on to the good stuff!" :)

Potentially deadly can cover a lot. Things I can think of: the bear wandering into the house after catching the scent of your cooking, leaking gas, electrical problems, contaminated water, a tree doing threatening things, the dryer not drying clothes and it turning out to be due to lint backing up int he exhaust tubing (which can cause a fire)...

Nevermind that though, what I wanted to say was that I loved the concert Sat. and the CD rocks! :)

Note to Kerry: how's that job app coming along? :)

Congrats to your sister, Kerry!

Also congrats to you on your song, "Distant Drums." Now that I've got the new CD, I got a chance to really listen to it at home. It actually got me a bit weepy! It's lovely!!! Bravo!
